Frequently Asked Questions about Solar Energy

We know that switching to solar is a big decision, and it comes with a lot of questions. Below, our engineers have answered the most common questions we receive from homeowners, business owners, and institutions exploring solar energy in Tamil Nadu.

What documents are required for solar installation?

To install a rooftop solar system in India, you will typically need: a copy of your latest electricity bill, proof of ownership of the property (sale deed or khata), identity proof (Aadhaar card or PAN card), passport-size photographs, and a bank account linked to Aadhaar for subsidy disbursement. For commercial and industrial installations, GST registration documents and a load sanction letter from the DISCOM may also be required. Fenzo's team will guide you through every document and submit applications on your behalf

How do you evaluate the cost of a solar repair?

Solar repair costs at Fenzo are assessed based on a thorough site inspection. Our technician evaluates the condition of panels (checking for micro-cracks, soiling, or physical damage), tests the inverter and charge controller performance, inspects wiring and mounting structures, and reviews generation data logs if available. A detailed written estimate is provided before any repair work begins, with no hidden charges. Standard repair visits start from a nominal service fee, with component replacement costs quoted separately.

What is the cost per square foot of panel installation?

The installation cost for solar panels in Coimbatore typically ranges between ₹40 and ₹70 per watt of installed capacity, depending on the type of panels (monocrystalline, polycrystalline, or bifacial), the inverter brand, battery backup requirements, and roof type. As a rough guide, a 3 kW on-grid system suitable for a 2–3 BHK home can be installed starting from approximately ₹2.2 lakhs - ₹78000 (subsidies) = ₹1.42 lakhs. Contact Fenzo for a free, customized site assessment and accurate quotation.

When should battery connections be checked?

Battery connections in a solar system should be inspected at least once every six months as part of routine maintenance. In addition, you should check connections immediately if you notice reduced backup time, unusual heat or smell near the battery bank, corrosion or discoloration at the terminals, or warning lights on your inverter or PCU. Fenzo's Annual Maintenance Contract (AMC) includes two scheduled battery inspections per year, along with system performance reviews and panel cleaning.

How much backup time do solar panels provide?

Backup time depends on your system type and battery capacity, not directly on the solar panels. In a hybrid or off-grid solar system with battery storage, a 150Ah battery bank can typically power essential loads (lights, fans, and a television) for 6–10 hours after a full day of solar charging. For larger backup requirements, additional battery capacity can be added. On-grid systems without battery storage provide no backup during power cuts, as they are designed to feed energy directly into the grid.
